DIVORCE

Divorce is unfortunate and can be devastating to all parties involved. Some divorces are easier to process than others depending on the issues involved. It can be both emotionally and physically draining for both parties. After the divorce there are a few things you will need to think about and to take action.

STEPS TO TAKE AFTER DIVORCE

It is important to review all of your important documents and assets to determine if you will need to make changes. The following are examples of what you may need to consider:

 Beneficiary Change on your will or life insurance policies.

 If you restored a former name, take a certified copy of your divorce judgment to Social Security and the DMV to get new cards issued.

 Close all credit cards that have both names listed or remove your ex-spouse as an authorized user on cards in your name only.

 Open up new credit cards with your name only.

 Change your income tax withholding from married to single.

 Change the name of the beneficiary for your employee benefits.

 Change the Title on your vehicle if you are both listed.
