27 Jun About Conservatorships For Parents with Children with Disabilities
In April of this year, Bill Schaaf, owner of our Walnut Creek store, met with the social workers from Kaiser hospital in Richmond. hey wanted to meet someone who can assist their clients with conservatorships.
When children with disabilities reach the age of 18, parents are no longer legally responsible for their children. The children at 18 are now adults. So the parents can apply to court to be the children’s legal conservator. This is very important that a disabled adult child have an advocate who can look out for their best interests and protect them. The social workers at Kaiser knew their clients could try to do this themselves or hire an attorney, but many of them couldn’t afford an attorney or were intimidated by the court. They liked that we offered an alternate at a price much lower than attorneys.
