28 Feb Meet the California Document Preparers Team: Valerie Jackson
Valerie Jackson, California Document Preparers’ March Employee of the Month, joined the Oakland office three years ago this month and has become an important part of this team.
Valerie arrived in the Bay Area from Oklahoma City when she was just five years old. Her single parents thought that her grandmother would be able to provide a better life, so they bought her a one-way ticket and put her on a plane with a note pinned to her shirt that said, “Please help me get to my grandma in Oakland, CA”. Valerie not only found her grandmother but continues to be close to the woman who raised her, Molly Jackson. Valerie has remained a Bay Area resident, and it’s here that she’s raising two children of her own, 18-year-old daughter, Janae and 8-year old son, Jamar.
A strong background in business and sales
She graduated from Merritt College with two Associate Arts Degrees: Business Accounting and Business Administration. She got her real estate license in 2007 and sold real estate for a few years. She is studying to get her certification in Paralegal Studies at Blackstone Career Institute; when she graduates, Valerie will register with the County of Alameda as a Legal Document Assistant. How does this translate to her clients and California Document Preparers’ team? Enhanced industry knowledge and critical thinking skills. “The more knowledge I have, the better equipped I am to help my clients across our many practice areas.” Valerie is also a Notary Public and a student member of the California Association of Legal Document Assistants.
A single mom makes time for family and friends
A single mother who’s working full time and going to school doesn’t have a lot of leisure, but Valerie makes quality time for her family. Her son loves video games and movies, and they love to take advantage of Jack London Theater’s $5 Sundays. Her daughter, Janae, is a very talented dancer and actress. “We love attending Janae’s performances together, and we always have awesome family time afterwards.” Valerie also likes music, reading, comedy and looks forward to carving out time to spend with friends.

During my high school and college years, people always encouraged me to find work I loved and would enjoy doing for free.
